An alien applicant interested and keen to study in the UK has to be eligible for studying in that country and must therefore meet some requirements as regards educational prerequisites, funds, and other such requirements and obligations. The name of the student visa for international students in the UK is termed or called as UK Tier 4 student visa.
The very basic requirements for a foreign applicant to get a student visa Tier 4 (General) are that the applicant must be 16 years or more than that age, must have been made an offer of study, should have the ability to read, write, speak and understand English, must have enough funds to support himself (this condition may vary somewhat depending somewhat on the circumstances of the student, etc.). He/she must also not be from a country which is European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland. These aforesaid are only the basic requirements for a student visa
If an applicant is accepted for a place in an institution of learning, that education provider (for example, a university) will send an applicant a ‘reference number’ called a confirmation of acceptance for studies (CAS) once they’ve offered him/her a place on a course. The applicant for a student visa needs to enter this on his/her visa application. The other documents that an applicant must provide include a current passport or other valid documentation, 2 passport-sized colour photographs, proof that the applicant can support himself or herself for the duration of the course, ‘proof of consent’ from a parent or guardian, if the age of the applicant is under 18, tuberculosis test results for applicants of some countries. An applicant for a student visa can only apply online and the fees for the application is £422, if it is paid online and £822 if he/she applies in person using the premium service. A decision is typically made before the end of 8 weeks for online applications and most likely on the same day, if the applicant has used the premium service.
