Canada’s Prime Minister Stephen Harper has announced that improvements will be made in Canadian visa services and a separate Visa Application Centre will be opened in Costa Rica, to make Canada an even more attractive destination for Costa Rican travellers. “In 2010, Canada had the pleasure of welcoming thousands of Costa Rican visitors to our country,” said the Prime Minister. “Improved visa services in Costa Rica will serve to address the number one irritant for the business community and encourage more tourists, students, business people and workers to visit Canada.” Canadian government is augmenting the number of Visa Application Centres around the world and also intends to improve services at existing locations. At present, Canada has its Visa Application Centres in 20 countries. The new centre is scheduled to open in September 2011. The opening of the Visa Application Centre in Costa Rica will facilitate the applicants have their visas issued at the Canadian Embassy in Costa Rica, without needing to send their passport outside the country.
