Hong Kong, a special administrative region of the People's Republic of China, offers incredible opportunities for individuals who wish to immigrate to Hong Kong for work purpose. Individuals need to obtain a Hong Kong Work Permit to work in the country. The Immigration Department of Hong Kong outlined different schemes under which the applicants can obtain Hong Kong Work Permit depending on their skills and qualifications. Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates (IANG), General Employment Policy (GEP), Admission Scheme for Mainland Talents and Professionals (ASMTP), are the different categories of Hong Kong Work Permit schemes. Professionals in arts, sports, culture, and culinary professions are also applicable to obtain Hong Kong Work Permit through these categories which are quota-free and non-sector specific.
The IANG, GEP and ASMTP have their own requirements and prerequisites to be satisfied by the individual who wish to obtain Hong Kong Work Permit through these categories.
For instance under IANG, non-local students who hold an undergraduate or higher degree in a full-time locally accredited local program in the country can only apply for a Hong Kong Work Permit. The students who submit a Hong Kong Work Permit application within six months after they graduate are considered as non-local fresh graduates and they do not need to acquire a job offer upon application. Whereas, the students who submit applications after six months of their graduation are considered as returning non-local graduates and they should acquire a valid job offer upon application.
Non-local graduate aspirants who have special skills, experience or knowledge which is not currently available in the HKSAR can apply for Hong Kong Work Permit under GEP. However, applicants need to satisfy certain conditions to acquire Hong Kong Work Permit under this category.
On the other hand, Chinese residents of the Mainland of China who are not non-local graduates but have special skills, experience or knowledge can apply for Hong Kong Work Permit under ASMTP. Applicants filing application for Hong Kong Work Permit must meet certain conditions of ASMTP to get qualified.
