In the list of top 20 universities, 5 are British universities where Oxford ranks 5th, Imperial ranks 6th, UCL ranks 7th and Edinburg is at 20th place. Swiss Federal Institute of technology is the only non English speaking university in Zurich which ranked 18th in the list.  Asian universities like Hong Kong and Tokyo ranked 22 and 25 where as the National University of Singapore ranked 28. It is for the second time Cambridge has taken the top position. Ben Sowter, QS head of research, said: "The gap between Cambridge and Harvard is very small, but Cambridge's superior student/faculty ratio helped tip the balance. Individual attention is one of the key attractions of the Oxbridge tutorial system." According to the compilers of ranking, the traditional comprehensive universities are getting dominated by the Government and private funding for technology- focused research. QS Says, since 2010 the average age of the top 100 universities has reduced to 7 years. 9 universities of UK were in top 50 and 17 in top 100. According to Sowter, "This year's QS rankings show that the worst effects of the funding cuts have yet to be felt by UK universities. However, pre-emptive redundancies and increased student intake have led to worse student to faculty ratios relative to their international peers. Of the 37 UK universities in the top 300, 34 fared worse in this measure than in 2010.” For the first time information regarding tuition fee was also made available along with the world rankings. In comparison with US universities, the higher education in UK is much cheaper. Universities in the Netherlands, including Amsterdam University (63rd place) Utrecht (80) and Leiden (88), are all in top 100 and offer English-language courses for less than £2,000 per year, QS said. Universities are mainly ranked on the following aspects like ratio of student and staff, educational status, citations and employability of graduates.
