Canada to provide online consultations for the Immigrant investor program
Under canada’s Economic action plan 2012, federal government has decided to provide online consultations to educate the public on federal immigrant investor program to faciltate investments in canada.
Citizenship, immigration and multiculturalism minister, Jason Kenney, stated that they can no longer remain to be passive players in the global competitive scenario for talent and investment. This is the reason why they need to review their immigration programs to facilitate and promote opportunities that enable immigrants investments, settled in canada, to benefit the Canadian economy directly.
Under the plan, they further announced that there will be substantial changes in the immigration programs to attract more investors for Canadian high growth companies. Citizenship and immigration Canada (CIC) is inviting suggestions from stakeholders and public to the department to be able to:
- Bring about an increase in the economic benefits brought to Canada by immigrant investment capital;
- Attract international investors and skilled workers with necessary resources and to ensure that they ingrate them well into canada’s economy; and
- Implement an efficient and cost-effective investment program.
CIC announced that the goal of these consultations as, a way for determining how best they can target high value investors globally and increase the benefit brought to Canadian economy by their capital, when they migrate to canada. Under the current immigrant investor program, they may apply for a PR visa if they satisfy certain criteria and can make a five year, CAD$ 8,00,000, interest-free loan to provincial and territorial governments.
Last updated on 1st july 2012, CIC has temporarily paused accepting new applications under the Federal skilled worker program. However, the pause on these applications is not applicable to candidates with offers of arranged employment or those candidates who have applied under the PhD in canada visa category.
The online consultations are open to suggestions until 4 September 2012.
