Parliamentary secretaries of Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC), Rick Dykstra and Chungsen Leung, are conducting a series of consultations on the issue of Canadian immigration. Appropriate meetings will be held with stakeholders and public regarding the same.

These meetings will be held in various cities including Vancouver, Windsor, Ottawa, Toronto and Halifax. As described in our previous blog, online consultations are open to public and stakeholders and invite their inputs.

CIC declared the purpose of these consultations as a way to get feedback on Canada immigration issues, including the Canadian immigration process, level of immigration, and the no. of immigrants which should be allowed under the work, study, business, or visitor’s category.

CIC officials stated that they shall also discuss on the department’s transition to a more flexible, fast and effective immigration system, and the value it brings to Canadian economy and future growth. They will not only consider Canadian government’s immigration objectives, but also government commitments, future economic prospects and input from various territories and provinces.

In these consultations, they will also focus on soft issues like the ability of the government on no. of visa applications being processed timely and effectively and the welcoming capacity of communities to new immigrants.
