Government app becomes Australia’s latest jobs finder
Smartphone users in Australia can now search through some 40,000 job vacancies using a new, free government app.
The app, which is available on iTunes and Google Play, makes Australia’s largest free online job search website available on smartphones. It harnesses GPS technology to quickly connect job seekers to vacancies in their area.
Australian JobSearch was launched at the Penrith Jobs and Skills Expo by Employment Participation Minister Kate Ellis. She champions the technology, which will aid both job seekers and businesses looking for workers, especially for part-time harvest jobs in regional Australia.
“Anything that gets job seekers in touch with job vacancies more easily and quickly is great for the job market and our economy”, she said.
“The app will also be useful to anyone looking for work in the mining industry, or any other industry with job vacancies advertised on the JobSearch website.”
Ellis conceded that the app could be improved over time to make the most of the smartphone technology.
“I’ve asked the department to also explore services that use other mobile device features such as cameras, calendars and social media,” she said.
“That could make the app more user-friendly and help bring more workers and employers together.”
