2018 Immigration Forecast for Canada

Posted on

2018 is proving to be a great year for Canadian immigration. From January itself, there were several intakes in the Provincial Nominee Programs. Nine Express Entry draws were also held, and Quebec introduced a change in the immigration programs. Here we anticipate the immigration issues and present a forecast for the remaining part of the year.

CANADA EXPRESS ENTRY

The targets of Immigration are ambitious for 2018. The majority of immigrants will be processed by using the Express Entry.

In the first quarter there were few Invitations to apply seeking permanent residence in comparison to the same time during 2017. Owing to this, fact we can expect that Express Entry draws in future will have a low CRS score so that the immigration officers can issue more ITAs.

Furthermore during the first three Express Entry draws of the second quarter there were low minimum scores. This was the factor behind issuing more ITAs. There were 3500 ITAs in draws with a minimum C.R.S. score of 441.

During the future, there is a great chance that EE draws will continue to follow this mode. With this Canada can reach the target for immigration also.

CANADA PROVINCIAL NOMINEE PROGRAMS

During 2018 there was much immigration activity involving PNPs. Manitoba and Alberta introduced new streams to attract more immigrants. a number of provinces opened the intake in their PNPs, permitting potential immigrants to apply in the programs.

In the future, there is a great chance that similar activity will continue in the PNPs. It is also possible that many provinces will increase their intake all through the year.

QUEBEC IMMIGRATION PROGRAM

Quebec enjoys autonomy in immigration to the province and has a unique immigration program. In the present year Quebec made a few major changes to the immigration programs. It is also making some of the programs look similar to the Express Entry system and has opted for selection criteria based on points.

It is likely that the Quebec Skilled Worker program will be open for intake of applications before the end of the summer. This will permit around 5000 potential immigrants to apply for this program. Additionally, the province might open the investment and business immigration streams and admit fresh applications after August 15th.

CANADA FAMILY IMMIGRATION

In February, the immigration minister announced a commitment to family immigration. The minister also announced that there will be a few changes to the family immigration system for making the processing time to sponsor applications shorter. Moreover, the Family immigration will also become easier.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS IN CANADA

During spring all university graduates are busy. Several global students graduate from Canadian universities, and hence there will be an increase in the number of applications seeking post graduation work permits. The permits offer a way to the global graduates to stay and work after finishing their academics.

ASYLUM SEEKERS

Canada faces more numbers of irregular border crossings and also has many claims for asylum. It is likely that the numbers will increase when the weather is warm.

The government is presently considering several options in addressing this issue and also decrease the strain on the system. It is holding discussions with overseas governments, regarding reducing the number of unauthorized border crossings.

OVERALL FORECAST

2018 is all set to be a good year for Canadian immigration. There will be many developments and much news in the next coming months. All the candidates must continue to remain up to date.
